Flea Creek / Gentle Annie Trail
 

Hi Guys,

Not sure if this should be in the ACT forum, but happy for it to be moved if so.

Weather permitting, I am planning on taking the wife out for a drive and for a bit of a picnic on the weekend. It will be the first time I've taken the Grand out on the dirt on my own. We're planning to hit up Flea Creek via Gentle Annie, have a spot of lunch, perhaps find a nice quiet place for a bit of fishing after a bit of exploring (Would like to bring the father in law back there for more fishing if it proves to be fun).

My concern is the Gentle Annie Trail. I have heard many different things from many different people about this track, but from vids I have found on YouTube, it appears to be a well graded track that just happens to be very steep. Can anyone who has experience in the area tell me if my bog standard WK2 will be able to manage it with relative ease? I'm imagining so, but I suppose I just want to know if there are any red flags before deciding to go down there!

Nothing to worry about on Gentle Anne, wide graded highway.

We had our stock WK down Gentle Annie and up webbs ridge about 4 months back. You'll have no problems whatsoever. It's so grade you could get a lowered DOOF DOOF on 26" rims down there and back :)

yes i drove both directions about 6 weeks ago in 2wheel drive if it was very wet the slick white clay and steepness may cause some issue but overal it was a wide well graded dirt road

It was the first I had been there in 15 years and was highly dissapointed it use to have a couple of bumper height vertical steps and was a reasonable but driveable challenge

great spot for a family picnic or take the family camping down the bottom at Flee creek

My only concern would be if Brindabella road is close due to snow then may need to approach it from the tumut end

Thanks all. From the research I've done it looks to be fairly simple. Just had read some things about it being difficult. Is it worth me trying to head for Mt Coree as well?

Mount Corree is great view would be very cold this time of year as its exposed on all directions

the drive up is pretty easy but rougher than Flee creek once again did it in 2 wheel drive but i have a load of clearence it has a lot of switch back corners and some of them are loose on the inside so you may need 4wd with less aggressive tyres and clearence. still on the easy scale but may be snowed in at this time of year that would make it hard if it is even open they have seasonal gates on this track

There was a bit of snow on Brindabella road. Quite picturesque really. The snow on the road itself had melted and left some nice mud behind, but was still sprinkled around here and there.

It was my first real outing in the Jeep and I had my wife and a non-initiated couple in the back. I was a bit nervous taking it down GA Trail, wondering at first if I'd ever get back up, but I needn't have worried. The JGC handled it beautifully all the way down, and it was especially fun tackling the steep slopes on the way back up. Handled it all with ease.

Have a few photos of the day I can put up if anyone is interested. I know mine is probably the least modified Jeep on this forum but I was pretty proud of myself!
