TJ: Project Combat 6

This build thread will document my engine swap from the 4L Jeep I6 to the current spec 4L I6 from a Ford Territory. Horsepower & torque figures are similar to the 4.7L Jeep stroker engine, but I think the more modern & fuel efficient Ford engine will be better in the long term. They certainly have been proven to be reliable & long lasting & very cheap to replace if needed.

I am going to retain the NV3550 manual transmission. Both Advance & Novak do a gearbox adapter to the Ford bellhousing. Advance also supplies the Clutch plate as part of the kit & is a few dollars cheaper. Research has told me that a BA bellhousing won't work as it the wrong design for the adapter plate, so an AU model has been sourced & posted.

I have also purchased a low mileage 4L from a Territory along with all the accessories, harness & computer. The computer will be sent away to specialists who will "flash?" it to remove all the unnecessary functions.

Well, that's it so far. I welcome any information & feedback that you may have out there.

Cool! lots of discussion around fitting late model ford 6's into TJ's & XJ's on here. Looking forward to seeing it all come together. Subscribed.

A local tuning shop is fitting them into Patrols here with outstanding results. 12.4L per 100km. I think it should be even better in a lighter Jeep. Dyno figures are also impressive.

any idea what they're charging for patrol conversion low ranger?

this could be a viable alternative to an ls1. add a turbo and it would be great fun

I will find out & let you know mate. I was keen to go LS1 too, but the real costs are too much for me to justify. I doubt an LS1 conversion would out-perform a Ford F6 Typhoon either, & the I6 is a cleaner, roomier conversion in my books.

Bought an EL flywheel for it today. They are a bit hard to find used as most people that have them want to sell it as part of an auto to manual conversion kit.
