XJ: The "never going offroad" build

thought it might be a good idea to post all the stuff i do to this nugget in one place

after watching this XJ on ebay for many many weeks and seeing the price reduce quite a fair amount
while on holidays in Sydney, went and had a look

this is march 2014

owners daughter was storing it
was told if i want it take it away and pay when i could or its going to scrap

got it to a friends in sydney asap

got it home about a month later
first up was some styling mods
got 5 accessory relays and fuses in the stock pdc

this is why you dont want a sun roof...

not going offroad didnt last long
about 2 weeks after rego actually ...

door hinge fix

rear speakers in quarter panels

more stock fun

accessory sockets in ashtray

now we all know, STOCK SUCKS

so out came the 31's

clearly needed lift
and maybe the old XJ tube bar

all ready for a 2 week trip to cairns and back to the goldcoast (home)

oh wait nope, better do an exhaust swap and abs delete first...

off to cairns

back home and more offroading

and about here is where it gets stupid

bushwakers on

original transfer case death

offroading? nah...

cowl induction as i dislike the look of snorkels

laser cut alloy rear drawers

air compressor inside rear quarter

bits of scrap metal

more wheelin

and the cleanest it ever looked

Richard buttocks 12-10-2015 07:39 PM

and then one quiet day

Richard buttocks 12-10-2015 07:54 PM

weeks of cleaning mud out and drying everything

cleaned rims up and got 33's fitted

fitted new (old XJ) exhaust

where i flopped a few weeks later and then a week later again

trip to rainbow with endless issues
surprisingly 99% of the time overheating
tore the tow bar off
broke rear uni

alloy radiator and thermo fan upgrade

back at rainbow beach and zero heat issues

The little co-driver looks like he knows what he's doing. Your in good hands.

and then this
got sick of it being half arsed

bought a house
that slowed me down for a month or so

let the tear down begin

goodbye lower control arm mounts

engine out for multiple new parts thrown at it
ignore the incorrect trans gasket...

chassis strengthening begins

4th steering box bolt

plate lower mount area

bit of paint

ACOS in also

SYE install into NP231

sunroof out

started filling it in

engine back in

and im wondering wtf am i doing still

re wired thermo fans and changed headlight relay/wiring around

once exhaust is back the engine bay will be mostly finished

have also upgraded to the update XJ condenser and made lines to suit

rock sliders

carpet under drawers = rust
thanks to the wonderful design of the funnel (hatch)

removed bed liner and paint, primed, painted, rubberized

started to mock up the long arms

and that so far, is the

most likely forgotten some things

but this is mainly to fast track to where im at
