JK 3.8 petrol turbo kits?

Has any one turbo'd their 3.8 petrol JK, if so how does it go and is there much turbo lag? What the fuel consumption like?

I was doing some surf on the subject and came up with this unit.

Any thoughts on the Pros and Cons.

Turbo's or centrifugal superchargers on petrol 4WD's really aren't a great match for off road use...... if the A/R is small enough to give good response down low its too small for wide open throttle stuff and of course vise versa. I've driven one turbo 3.8 and it was laggy as all hell due to the position of the single turbo.

And of course the ole 3.8 really doesn't respond all that well to any forced induction, its best with low rpm boost but still isn't spectacular. A positive displacement blower suits the engine better IMHO.

Lastly, your dealing with a minor supplier..... mechanically that's probably ok but the tuning quality is what makes or breaks ALL these kits and that ongoing development takes time and commitment. Companies like Sprintex have made huge improvements in their tunes ( power, economy and driveability ) over time, whether a smaller supplier has the expertise, resources and commitment to keep doing that is a risk I'd be very cautious of.

At the end of the day I'm just trying to find a cost effective way to get more power and fuel efficiency from the underpowered 3.8 JK engine. Even an old 3.8 litre Commodore motor or a Mitsi Pajero motor pushes out more power (Torque & HP) .

Then I believe your wasting your time...... The EG family was never a performance engine, never used in any sporty vehicle and was never developed for any form of competition.

Everything you do, blower, turbo, stroker is big $$ and yields only moderate results compared with more advanced engines.

Sure its limitations can likely be minimized by liberal applications of $$ or your own expertise, but not a lot of bang for buck. Seriously......tart up what you have...sell it and buy a Pentastar engined JK. Or of course do an engine swap.

Many more possibilities and at least you'll know definitely what the outcome will be.

Maybe I should just enjoy the fact that I'm saving dollars and points on speeding fines. (haha)

Pentastar engines brand new were only $2500 usd or so. The electronics side of the conversion would be the hard part.

But seriously save your money and buy a factory pentastar jk. You get a newer car as well as much better power. Vast majority of your mods (if you have any, I am not sure of your current cars details) will be a straight swap over.

If it's not a massive power increase your looking for have you considered trading in for a diesel or pentastar? More power and better reliability for a daily driver.

Oops beaten to it. If you really want forced induction supercharged will be better offroad than turbo.
