Jk Diesel Engine Knock

2008 diesel
Driving highway and started to knock from what appears to be top of engine.
Started as a quiet knock then got louder. Speed of knock varies with engine speed.
Occasionally will disaaper momentarily.
Sounds a bit like the old 5appet noise.
No loss of power in engine and no smoking.
No signs of filing etc on end of dip st8ck.
In a small country t8me but local mechanic has verified following.
Compression on all 4 ok
Injectos seem ok
No power loss
No smoke
It's not diesel knock

Before we start dismantling top on engine does anyone have an idea of cause or experienced someth8ng same

Sounds like a failed rocker. There is a lot of info on Lost jeep.

Shiiiiiiit... Looks like a common failure on this engine at 120-180K. Several already reported on this forum, and we don't have that many diesel JKs in Aus. In Europe there're many reports of this problem... The failure is snapped bolts. Some recommend to replace them as a preventive measure. Must be a bad batch or something on '08-'09. Please keep us posted what would be done and costs.

What bolts are you referring to?
