Fuel Rail for 2007 Wrangler JK CRD
 

Hi all,

Taking a punt that someone has had experience with the fuel rail in their CRD wrangler JK...At a crossroads deciding how much to keep spending on my 2007 JK with 200K kms.

Been battling a low fuel rail pressure code (p0087) for past 5 months. Have been through the works diagnosing (fuel filter, loose terminals, injectors), had to suck it up and go to dealership who advised that the fuel rail needs replacing to fix the low pressure issue as the solenoid sensor needs replacing.

As Jeep don't let Bosch sell the fuel rail separately, I'm looking at $2,300 from dealership. Found an eBay special for $1000 from a seller that has previously been discussed on this forum as coming through with the goods (Jeep Antalaktika). Im in Tassie so second hand parts for CRDs don't exist.

So what's thoughts? Spend $2,300 on genuine part, $1000 for the ebay part or break my heart and consider a trade in... Any thoughts welcomed.

A good diesel fuel injection workshop can change the sensor on the rail, I've had mine replaced, it's a bosch sensor. I was also throwing same code.
Mine turned out to be a broken ground wire from the TIPM to the sensor somewhere down next to the passenger side engine unable to be accessed. They hooked in a new one and bingo, readings normal again.
Try testing the fuel rail sensor wiring, there are a few good youtube vids that show you how. I found them after the repair. There are only 3 wires, 5volt, signal and ground (from bad memory).
All you need is a multimeter.

If you can locate the sensor it will have a Bosch Part number on it which you can google to find a supplier (USA/Europe). I had a low fuel pressure code pop up after I fitted a pair of Wesfil Cooper fuel filters to the WK2 the code went away after I fitted a pair of UFI/Jeep fuel filters - my guess is the Cooper/Wesfil filters were too restrictive in filtering the fuel.
The WK2 CRD's use a Bosch fuel system & all parts like the rail pressure sensor on the drivers side rail (rear end of rail)MOPAR Part # 68247772AA ,
, fuel pressure regulator on the passenger side rail (front end of rail)MOPAR Part # 68248541AA , Bosch # 0281006209
& the fuel supply solenoid (with fuel inlet screen) on the Bosch CP4 HP injector pump - Bosch # 0928 400 779. all have part numbers. Find the part number then try looking it up online

The sensor on the rear of the rail is around $50, the part number is often posted on the crd facebook page.

Freetripper, TR Laredo, MidnightMods, thanks so much for your information. Really useful! This forum is terrific. I wish i was more mechanically minded but i slowly pricing together jigsaw.

The bit i am struggling with is what exact part i should replace. I have the dealership saying replace the whole rail as the solenoid(?) is built in. But then everyone else seems to think the sensor or regulator is the key and this can be addressed on its own. Exact wording from dealership is as follows:

"Fuel rail will need replacing to fix the low pressure issue as the solenoid sensor needs replacing."

I would have rail is just a piece of pipe that, unless blocked, shouldn't affect the pressure. Ill post a couple of pics of my rail that may assist...
