Wiper mist function

Up until recently when moving the wiper stalk downwards it would simply give one swing of the wipers as normal, called the mist function in the book. Now the washer operates as well just like when its pulled towards the driver.
Not sure if this is a faulty switch, wiring or software problem.
Anyone seen or heard of similar. Not a big issue just anoying?

That multifunction stalk is a temperamental thing. I've read so many random things can go wrong with it. Mine has glitched out on the internal light adjuster and now no longer alters the cabin lights (fortunately its at a reasonable level before failing on me)

Its not a cheap part to replace for what it is either.
