HELP Identifying control arm brackets
 

Hello all.

I am in need of Identifying the control arm brackets on my JK

They came with the Jeep when I bought and looking to upgrade just curious what is on the jeep already.

I was told it's a 2" lift. If you need any measurements or more photos just let me know.

For your info: The brackets don't do anything for the lift. They just correct the steering geometry once it is installed. To bring the caster back into the correct range & prevent steering shimmy.

Those are not the AEV ones that I have.

Yep they are the AEV Geometry Correction Brackets, I had them on my JKUR until they cracked!

They allow you to set the upper control arms at the correct pinion geometry according to the lift height of the vehicle. You'll notice that the rear bolt on the upper arms has 3 positions, 2.5", 3.5" and 4.5".
The interesting thing is yours appears to have been installed with non AEV springs and shocks not that it matters much.

They're a great idea but being a 2 piece design they are prone to cracking. There are other version available that are actually braced and welded together that are more rigid and far less prone to cracking.

Whilst adjustable control arms will allow you to set the pinion angle as well, these keep the control arms at the same angle as when stock. Adjustable control arms are going to give a better ride off road yet not as smooth on road due to the design.

No the AEV don't have that join at the back where the 2 bolts are linking the side plates together in the pic. At least, mine certainly don't. Unless they changed the design & added them later?

I've looked at that AEV correction kit multiple times but not even once did I think it was two pieces bolted together on either side!!!!

The shocks actually say Archy 4X4 on them but i've not bothered researching them.

I've been looking control arm, springs and shocks

but as they say one step at a time, figured it would be worth understanding what I have underneath first and foremost.

Always a good place to start!

The brackets are good for correcting the caster & make the ride smoother, (well, back to normal after a lift), but you do sacrifice a bit of ground clearance just there if you are rock crawling. The alternative is adjustable lower control arms.

Even with a 2" lift, they are important. Mine didn't have them when I got it 2nd hand & it was subject to severe steering shimmy whenever I hit an offset bump in the road at ~80kph. These fixed that & made the on road ride much smoother.
