Thermostat housing failure 2 Attachment(s)
Had a fairly spectacular failure of my thermostat housing a few days ago. Was overtaking a car at 100kh, had given the throttle a boot full when a huge cloud of steam came out the rear.
Blew a piece out of the housing directly above the thermostat. Hadn't heard of this before, might just be a one off. When looking where the water comes from it looks like it's running down the top hose to the bend. 2012 JKU 3.6L with about 120K km. Was easy to replace. |
Nice... I love Jeep cooling systems!
Just slightly worse than the old BMW |
If you have over 100000km on the stock thermostat housing then it's on borrowed time
They normally develop a crack and start to slowly weep Sent from my SM-G965F using Tapatalk |
Yeah, mine cracked exactly there and was weeping for a while.
By the time I worked out where it was and ordered a new one it decided let go over night and I had a pool of coolant under the Jeep the morning I was leaving for a camp trip. Ended up being an hour late to leave for that trip and now I am known to my mates as the guy who has a spare Jeep in his Jeep just Incase it breaks.
