Nulon Apex+ 5W-40

I see this oil is now stocked at the usual places, anyone used it yet in our diesels?

Never knew it existed but I suppose this would be for us as it is CK-4 which is the upgrade from API CJ-4 , ACEA E9 https://www.nulon.com.au/products/en...lus/apxhd10w40

7lt @ $87 Supercheap..............

Yet the 5W40 is ACEA C3, API CF https://www.nulon.com.au/products/en...plus/apx5w40d2

depends if you want more Euro or US specs...

I suppose the real question is do you go with a 10W-40 or the approved 5W-40 grade. Obviously the lighter grade will have better flow at cold temperatures on start up, but is it needed at typical Aus winter temps? I drive a fair bit in the Vic high country over winter hunting Sambar and the Jeep is often parked all day or overnight in some forest in zero or sub zero temps. I reckon 5W-40 is probably a better bet in my case.

The 10W-40 may meet CK-4 spec, but it's not full synthetic - increasing your chances of DPF issues.

The 5W-40 seems alright.

I think the 5W compared to 10W is not an issue as both will operate way below any temps found in Australia, 5W at minus 30c and 10W at minus 20c I have gone to the CJ4/E9 spec over C3/CF since Jeep changed from C3 to CJ4, thinking the CJ4/E9 might be a bit more HD compared to C3 from things Ive read.........

C3, E9 being ACEA and CJ4 , CF being API.

I'd really like to know what oil VM Motori recommend for their engines...FCA don't inspire any confidence at all with their recommendations, as it is all about extending service intervals and sticking thin oil in to assist fuel economy rather than engine longevity.
Changing recommended oil mid model was likely due to the large number of early bearing failures experienced by vehicle owners....that coupled with looong service intervals to keep the service costs down.

Can't find much detail on the Nulon Apex+ 5w 40 at all...it doesn't meet CJ or CK 4 spec. The sort of detail that would be good to know would be the Ash content, TBN etc....nothing on their site at all.

Like most 5W oils it meets the ACEA C3 spec, I haven't found a CJ4 or CK4 in anything lower than 10W as its more aligned for HD diesels it seems, since it has the CK4/E9 spec I doubt being semi syn matters in this case....
