Brakes!?

My car is currently sitting at Brighton Jeep for service at 34K and I've been told I need front brakes and rotors replaced at the cost of around $800??!?!?!

I've just told them to hold off for now. Is this normal? Any better pricing else where? If it's got to be done than fair enough but it wasn't something I was expecting...

Tell them you want them to fit aftermarket brakes pads (EBC Greenstuffs) and rotors from RDA (www.rdabrakes.com.au) The Jeep Dealer in Perth uses these as they are better and cheaper than the Jeep ones. A brake job is still going to cost you $600 at least though I would have thought.....how many k's has yours done? If its under 20000kms then Jeep should be footing the bill. Change them out to the RDA's and Greenstuffs and you'll probably see a lot better wear moving forward.

Same thing happened to me at about 40K, cost approx $750 last year at Chillingworth Perth, I was also was not happy at the time.

Take it to a specialist aftermarket brake place such as ABS. My front rotors and pads were gone at 60,000kms and Jeep told me it'd be about $750 to replace them. I had them done at ABS in Seaford for about half that amount. Rotors were DBA and pads were TRW/Lucas. I've since put about 15000km on them with no dramas or hassles. I'd highly recommend them.

Im with wilmo, mine were replaced with Greenstuff (not sure about rotors) but havent had any probs since, my originals flogged out at 15K Km.

No way. Most of the time premature brake wear is simply driver abuse. I know there are plenty of cases of warped rotors being replaced under warranty and that's fair enough. But worn-out pads ? No way, drive smoother and brake sooner, you're not driving your mum's 84 Corolla now...
