yep no vac leaks, throttle position is good, all fuel injectors plugged in, all sensors cleaned, new ignition coil, leads and dizzy cap/rotor, definite fuel pressure.

The misfires happen at both...

It's a used engine and we've done a compression test and all the cylinders are good. We've checked fuel, got new ignition leads, timing had been double checked.

Exclamation ZJ Grand Cherokee 1998 4.0L engine replacement

Replaced the engine, I get no error codes, it can hold idle but it suffers under any load revving past 2000rpm.

Has anyone done this job before?

the ignition leads were bad

Some resistance testing revealed that the ignition leads were old and bad, so that would explain the inconsistent start.

Cheers fellas, we got it running. There was some stale fuel in there, we put some injector cleaner and replaced the spark plugs. Just needs some fine tuning now! A strange detail though, it wasn't...

4.0L engine replacement ZJ 1998

Installed a new engine in my 98 ZJ, compression is good, there's fuel pressure and spark, timing is good. It cranks but doesn't start. Any suggestions? I'm not getting any error codes either.
