Thanks to everyone for their input. I have been able to get all the problems back to normal for now. It actually did a few other weird things in between like suddenly the drivers window...

Thanks mate. That is where I am heading next. It does seem to be drilling down to that area. Don't think that it is an earth problem as the drivers side mirror operates but not the passenger side....

I have a Grand Cherokee Laredo, built June '96 so I think it would be the same as yours.

There should be a small red flashing light on the left side above the glove box near the windscreen....
