I was leaning very heavily towards the Metalcloak arms until I saw some news about the new Synergy joints. They seem legit and I can pick up some used Teraflex arms really cheap and then ditch them...

The diving on Koh Tao is ridiculously good, with warm water and amaing visibility.

It will give you peace of mind in the future and is not an overly expensive thing to do as long as it is competely out...

As you have found out you can't really run alloy axles with stock unis as the unis will just let go all of the time.
Each time you upgrade something you are essentially moving the weak point...
