This appears to be a common problem according to the WWW. The best remedy is the ABS plug at the top of the rear diff can get frayed so repair or replace and these warning lights will dissapear.

All fixed!! Cleaned everything with carby cleaner then blow dried the housing and applied a generous amount of plastic glue. Left it to dry in a hot shed for a day, whacked it back in a approx 5000ks...

Makes sense. I'll pull it out, wash it with carby cleaner and jam some epoxy in there and post the outcome. It's a later 2.8CRD.
May even get a complete Donaldson kit or similar....
