Just chipping in to add that the coolant component on display is indeed an A/C condenser... the presence of the green coolant/compressor oil confirms this...

Doing that will only tell you the average ATF temp (hottest - coolest = AVG), each to their own I suppose, better any temp gauge solution than none at all ;)
