My drivers side speaker stopped working, It turned out being the wire running to the speaker, for some reason jeep don't solder the joins but use a plastic sleeve & epoxy glue instead.

Start with the head unit, the stock speakers actually sound quite good when driven by a good reasonable quality head unit.

Have a look on Gojeep's site, he's done a write up about fitting a bigger battery in the XJ. I did something similar on mine and can now fit a 700cca battery where the standard 420cca used to be.

I just had a got a 2 1/4 inch free flow type...

I just had a got a 2 1/4 inch free flow type muffler fitted for $100. I can't say that it has made the Jeep any quicker or anything but it certainly sounds better, and yes it sounds much like a V8.
