Default Why is this wire so critical? 2011 WK2 Laredo CRD

While doing mods to the trailer plug wiring I had to remove the whole rear compartment flooring to lift up the carpet. To remove the base I had to unplug a wire just next to the tail door catch. Later when the wiring was completed I tried to test if I had done everything correctly and attempted to start the car. Neither of my key fobs were recognized. After some initial panic I reconnected this plug and everything was fine. Tried it a second time and the car will not recognize the keys. Not even when inserted in the dash board! It would be a pretty effective security mod to fit a switch in the loom if the Canbus system doesn't have a heart attack. Anyone know what this wire is for? Seems to lead to a device just next to the latch that you lift the rear floor to access the spare wheel. Might be a key fob sensor/antenna? I've included a pic of it's location.
