The right tool ( the balljoint press shown ) frequently has an optional 4WD pack that contains extra spacers / tubes that you will need and the right size washers help heaps.
When I replaced mine, I got a piece of steel pipe from a exhaust shop. I ended up using a cardboard roll as a template and used a angle grinde to shape the pipe so it pulls true. Heat gun is your friend too...
