Hi found out last night all is not lost. I have spoken to a locksmith and he said they can cut a key and as long as the chip is near the ignition it will be fine. Plan is to either do as suggested, thanks amlav or grind down the end of the key a bit and arildite the chip end onto the end of the new one. It will mean a bit long a key but it will only be an emergency one in any case. I could possibly solder it as there is a brass stub on the broken key, but am concerned about melting the chip. I must say I was glad when I arrived home late last night to find I did not throw out the plastic stub as I first thought.
