Ideally you should replace, if you can get one to fit, I have usually just kept the grease up pretty regularly to keep the crap out, though I once cleaned the tear up with degreaser and metho then when nice an clean superglued it back together then greased it, I was amazed that it worked but a pain to do and has to be really,really clean.
