Not being an expert on these things and coming from a wrangler perspective if you still have 2WD wouldn't that indicate a snapped chain in the TC which wouldn't be a massive (ok maybe it would be in hindsight) job to replace.
As for a swap I bought a second hand one on here for $400 I think when I blew mine up (it was in about 8 large chunks thanks to a front prop shaft blowing a cardigan joint and oscillating the yoke to shreds). After getting it towed home I did the swap in my Appartments garage. I only needed a trolley jack and about 3 jack stands. FSM has more detail. It's not that big a job to 1 for 1. It took me a day and half a slab of beer!
