Change the timing belt now, it was scheduled to be changed by 100,000kms or five years of age (which would be back in 2010 in the case of a 2005 model). Consider yourself very lucky but change it now!
Make sure that the timing belt tensioner and the idler pulleys (2) are changed at the same time. On a 2005, which is now 8 years old i'd also replace the water pump which is driven by the timing belt and is easier to do when the belt is changed. Make sure the job is done by someone that knows what they are doing with VM diesels.
