You all are saying we can own a gun if we give good reason, well one reason i know we will never be given rights to a gun if we state its for "home protection", saying that in USA they give you want you need, but it's a dirty word if you say it in AUS.
To be perfectly honest I cannot in good consious agree with this.

I am a weapons engineer. I served for 9 years as a weapons specialist and bomb disposal in the RAF and the one thing I can state is that if you don't have the training AND experience to using a firearm in a CQB (close quarter battle) situation you are more dangerous to yourself and your family.

And to be perfectly honest if you have THAT kind of experience then you don't NEED a firearm to defend yourself or your family in your home.

When I came to australia I had friends in the Federal police that were trying to recruit me because of my past experiences etc and they were talking about being armed and all that. But I really do believe that the firearms are a tool for killing. Nothing more, nothing less. To own a firearm you are basically stating that I am going to try and kill somthing. Wether that be an animal or person makes the difference.

I am passionate about firearms. They are something I enjoy a great deal however since moving to a civilian lifestyle I cannot hoestly justify having a gun other than me just wanting to pull the trigger now and again. For that I just go to a range or a friends property.

Stating the 'home defence' excuse for a firearm is basically stating that I WILL try to kill whoever comes into my home.
