When I bought mine in from tirerack.com the total cost including shipping was around$1154 aud from memory.

Because tirerack put the sales invoice as the top page customs didn't look at the other pages. The invoice was for the tyres only not including shipping so I avoided having to pay GST.

The other funny thing was as they saw the tyres came from the US there was no import duty to be paid on US manufactured goods. Glad they didn't notice the tyre were Japanese made Yokohama's!

I've been bring camera gear worth thousands into Australia for over a decade and I've never had to pay import duty or GST, probably luck in several cases.

When I bought in a lighting desk worth $15,000aud I did have to pay GST but not import duty as it was US manufactured.

From what Customs have told me directly, GST on all items over $1000Aud including freight costs but no import duty on US manufactured goods.
