I disagree with this statement.
small diesels are no longer lasting than a petrol equivalent motor.
the million mile motors are 16+ litre motors designed to max rpm in the 1500-2100range. And Ive seen my fair share of million mile motors and rebuilt a few too.
Biggest problem with diesels is over heated motors = ring change every time
