As with anything Chrysler...there is no rhyme or reason for a lot of changes on Jeeps.
I think from memory the 2 wire is the early version, the later 3 wire. The later is also a variable speed, which explains the 3 wires. As in there is a signal wire there.
I changed mine out a few weeks ago..... I went to B&T, there was a shelf of them to pick from as apposed to the diesel electric fan that whenever I see one, I buy it regardless of my current need. While I dont particularly trust any wreckers, some are taking a lend of people more than others.
Re fan, yes the electric fan will run a lot more than on a diesel, the petrol V6 electric fan pulls air through the rad and being so close to the viscous coupling reduces the amount of time the viscous fan is running locked. I assume this is to optimise fuel consumption.
