I think spanner is 36 not 37mm. Removing the shroud isn't difficult after you have done it once. Good skill to know especially if you want to clean radiator or replace serpentine belt etc.
It may be possible to remove fan without shroud but I would suggest that unless you are in a massive hurry to remove it and get familiar with your engine bay.
