Trans temp is one thing, temp of the fluid fresh outta the torque converter is another. This is why it must be cooled to an extent that keeps the average temp of components within spec.
FSM states 50-80*C is the normal operating temp inside the AW4, but trans fluid temp itself will be much higher depending on slip. If too hot, it will the fluid will start to break down.
