Remove the lower bolts from the timing case and inspect the teeth .
Does the water pump look replaced? It can be seen from the passenger side of the bay. Also the can cap seal on the exhaust side. How does it look?
Too me it looks replaced. If you want to replace the water pump. You can buy a timing belt too and if once removed you don't want to change it and just the pump. You can return the belt.
