My experience was a dropped valve seat after overheating.
Lesson learn't was, if buying a WJ/WG and it has a new radiator and/or water pump be very wary.
After removing the heads and then the valves, all the valve seats in one head 'fell' out with little effort needed  (that was the head that had dropped a seat).
We're talking 4.7's here 
The 4.0lL I6 handles overheating pretty well.

Valve seats and valves although not common.
Hence why I'm getting my valve seats peened and new stainless steel valves.
This was what happened to my mate's 4.7

way home i was about 1500 rpm going down the road and it just shut off. started it up and the was clunking bad so i got it towed. when i got home i pulled the valve cover and everything looked good. did a compression test and one cylinder read zero. pulled the head and found that the head of the valve broke off and hit the piston and got busted up and shot out of the exhaust. it happened for no reason but just fatigue over the years. so the two pistons were shot, head was shot, and the block had a few nicks in the cylinder walls. |
btw, I do have a new radiator and water pumps...
. Mine's good though and well abused. lol!
