Removing axles is easy. Don't think since they are out you might as well upgrade. Replacing both unis would take a decent mechanic 2-3 hours.
I personally wouldn't get RCV axles buy a spare set of oem ones and learn how to replace them. It's pretty easy with only basic hand tools required.
