Just my humble opinion...
Don't get it done just before leaving, definitely not the day before, without some good driving before you go.
If the mechanic accidentally leaves something undone, half finishes something cos' smoko, apprentice was learning on your car...it's going to really go bad.
You don't want your trip totalled.
Get it done quite a few kilometers of driving before you go.
Do some road trialling between the service and when you go.
