Ok, after a bit of googling tonight I think the cause of my problem might be a blocked or crimped vent hose. I found a few instances of this problem on other vehicles but nothing for the WK2. Now I just need to find it... or leave it for the service guys.
I suspect it might have been damaged of blocked during the build of the vehicle.
