Hi guys

Thank you for the info and suggestions!

I'm located in Islington. I've asked around at few local garages here in Islington and Wickham and have found a mechanic who owns a XJ & WJ. Mark at Paul Bramble automotive, 8 William St, Maryville NSW 2293.

Mark has helped me out to find the issue of the misfire and very rough idle. It looks like the head gasket has failed between cylinders 2 & 3. Pressure on both was around 60psi. So it looks like I'll be replacing the gasket and getting the head machined.

Since owning the XJ for 5 years I've never had a overheating issue so maybe the gasket has just been slowing failing from a issue before I owned it? It was driving great, drove to the shops one day a few weeks back, started it up to drive home and was running rough.

Around the corner in Wickham are The Head Men who specialise in machining heads. Jason & Aaron there were also very helpful and answered heaps of my questions.

Both Mark and the guys at The Head Men reckon I could do the head gasket myself. Having never done this on any car before, it'll be a first time!

My'00 XJ has only done 157K. I know this year has issues with the cylinder head cracking. Hopefully its all good. But in case its not does anyone know where I can get hold of a Tupy stamped cylinder head here in Oz? I don't really want to pay for the shipping from the states!

While not wanting to admit it could be a head gasket issue I replaced the following parts:

• OBD2 reader & torque app ( P0302 code - cylinder 2 misfire )
• Cleaned throttle body
• TB gasket
• Air intake hose clamps
• Performed a smoke test (only found a leak around the TB shaft)
• Checked for vacuum leaks with carb cleaner
• Vacuum pressure test ( reading was jumping around in the red)
• Injector diode test
• IAC sensor
• MAP sensor
• TPS sensor
• 2x 02 sensors
• CPS sensor
• PCV valves, grommets and lines.
• Cleaned air filter
• Battery
• Checked and cleaned grounds
• Four hole neon injectors
• NGK plugs
• Coil rail
• Oil filler cap
• Fuel filler cap
• Drained and cleaned fuel tank
• New fuel pump (fuel pressure heaps better)
• Purged the fuel line
• Seafoam & Nulon upper engine cleaner
• Reset the ECU (a number of times)

Oh, replaced the head liner while I had the car sat in the backyard.

Will
