Lots of storage space. Well that rules out a Wrangler. You'll find that even the Unlimited doesn't have a great deal of space because the roll cage takes up a lot of usable room in the back.

My JK 4 door was great for the missus and I but as soon as you wanted someone in the back, you realise that there isn't a great deal of storage space especially if you have rear drawers, dual battery and a fridge. I'd tow a box trailer if I was taking extra passengers camping.

For what you want to do, I'd be looking at the diesel. If you must go petrol, don't get the 3.8 (07 - 11). It's a good reliable motor, don't get me wrong (I had one for 5 years and loved it), but it's down on power and really loves a drink compared to the 3.6L. As humdingerslammer pointed out, those must haves, are must haves, but they add a lot of weight.
