SKIS - Sentry Key Immobiliser System - uses chipped keys which are sensed by the SKIM - Sentry Key Immobiliser Module - which has a ring around the ignition barrel.
If you have a 97 with push button fobs you do not have SKIS/SKIM.
I have two button fobs for my 97 TJ in the UK. The UK 2 button fob immobiliser module is behind the cluster on early TJs and may be the same location for Oz TJ and XJ modules.
The UK immobiliser in early TJ/XJ Mk2 models was made by May and Schofield. I don't know if it contains any relays as it actually prevents cranking in my TJ never mind running. A US non security enabled PCM from the USA should work but might need the immobiliser removing and may also require starter circuit wires splicing if they are indeed interrupted by the immobiliser.
Hopefully somebody who knows more about the system fitted to Oz Jeeps of that era will be able to offer more information.
