Here are the locations. There are figure numbers on the right which refer to images in the manual showing the actual location graphically.
If you are sure you have 12v going to the solenoid supply on pin one of the solenoid, then I would be inclined to cut your wire at both ends and run a new one as you have suggested. Been a lot of vibration on the wiring of a 20 year old car, especially considering much of it isn't protected or supported all that well.
