For me, if Nissan did a short-wheelbase Patrol in Oz (they do in Japan) or Toyota did a short-wheelbase Cruiser, I'd buy it. But they don't, so the Wrangler is my only choice. (Not into the Landrover 90 - way to primitive.)
But having said that, to buy a Patrol/Cruiser with diff locks and everything like that standard it would cost a lot of $$$. But, they do come with bigger (again) tyres and I think you're right - out of the box they do have a bit more off-road ability.
