Battery also died and the mechanic advised that the fuses on the top of the battery were melted so something happened,the first sign of trouble was the battery light coming on for a few Ks then went off and then after about half an hour came back on and all the electrics started to shut down one by one.

What fuses did you have ontop of the battery?
