I've been quoted $750 to rebuild the D30, drive in, drive out. The D35 I had rebuilt in my last XJ was much more expensive, about $1500 incl a new driveshaft. So $500 for a used D35 is not bad at all.

I will either try to replace the pinion bearings myself or get a used D30 if it's more like $300. Or sell the car. I'm not loving this XJ like I did my last one for some reason.
