OK......final fix was........
.........took off the front passenger side door trim and looked at the wiring and connector plugs and immediately noticed that the connector that is supposed to plug into the back of the power lock switch was NOT plugged in.
Plugged that in and all works exactly as it should.
BTW, the door trim had been removed by the "supposed" "authorised" Jeep service centre - obviously they'd neglected to connect up all of the different wires and plugs they'd disconnected.
