Hey Phil - you are doing the same thing I used to do.
You are good up to save the post, left click on the thumbnail, copy the short-cut.
Then,
Select 'insert image' and a box pops up with highlighted text -
immediately delete the highlighted text before pasting the shortcut and you're golden.
it's taken me over 2 years to work that out
Only got it sussed last week
