Put the carpet in a shallow tub, drum, or similar, fill it with water, pour in the charcoal and soak it for about a week or so, giving it a bit of a stir each day.
Charcoal is great for absorbing odours. My wife won't let me eat onions or curries without it.

Thanks for that. Not sure if I want to go down the route of removing it entirely. Only if I would replace the carpet with vinyl (Still toying with the idea).
I will just put some on it and rub it in. I have already some backs with charcoal hanging in the car to absorb any smell in the air.
