I had the experience of the clip on the end of the shifter (under the car and the transfer case) simply coming oiff. I put i back together. Get under the Jk and have a look.... maybe all you need to do is reattach the clip thingy.But I eventually had the whole shifter cable replaced with after market cable and all and no problems.
