I've got 4.10 in my 2007 JKU 2.8 CRD manual with 315/70/17 's
Stalled out on a steep slippy bank on an off road site once (in 4L) ... quickly pushed it into 1st from 2nd let the clutch out turned the key it started no problem and got me to the top OK (phew !)
There is probably more torque available on the CRD to your 3.8 petrol !
I find the 4.10 with my 34.25 " diameter tyres runs just nice
