Thanks for the feedback gents.
Yes, as I'm writing this, it's in with a trusted trans specialist getting looked at. So by c.o.b. today I should have a better idea.
According to the "tech specialist" at the Jeep dealership, who I spoke to after I put up the initial post, leaks in the trans cooler lines had apparently drained oil from the trans, caused the pump to fail, etc., etc., etc. Which in some respects, is a totally plausible explanation, but....
As I said before, is that if the leaks were severe enough to drain the trans, SINCE the last service, I'd expect to have seen puddles of trans fluid - which I haven't. And if they weren't that severe, then why weren't they picked up at the last service, in Sept?
And why didn't the trans temp sensor pick something up, so that the problem could be addressed PRIOR to significant damage occurring?
The cars only done about 70K since new, never really been off road, hasn't been used as a tow vehicle, and regularly serviced?
The cynical/conspiracy-theory side of me thinks that something actually was picked up at the last service, BUT, "hey guys, guess what, the extended warranty on this vehicle runs out in two months, so.... "
However, this is just further proof of a decreasing level of quality and service from this particular dealer, over the past 3 services, which I will be addressing directly with FCA once I've got the feedback from my trans guy this afternoon.
Another day another dollar.....
