When you come to put it back together, use a new copper washer. Make sure you anneal it.
Most copper washers are stamped & not annealed so they are too hard to seal properly unless over tightened. If you have a gas stove, just heat it up nice & hot in the flame & then let it cool down nice & slowly. Give it a light rub with steal wool so its nice & clean.
This works on old copper washers as well. Needs to be done to injector copper washers as well.
