Certainly will need to remove the bash plate whatever way you remove the plug...

and while on the subject when you change the fuel filters make sure you have the right size socket and hold it firmly on the nut head, being plastic they will easily round off........................ I happen to have a special tool to remove the filter when you bastardize the nut, its not pretty but it works, the filter cap will never be used again though............
