Default O2 sensor failure!

So I cleaned my o2 sensors thebsame way I would normally do it on my mitsu. Soak it over night in petrol then blownitbout with an air blower. Since then it woukd start fine then after 30 seconds it would sound lioenit has cames. Bit of splutter out the back on my hand and have very shitty power. If you baby the throttle whilst driving at 50kmh in 4th it will want to bunny hope a little. Smells like gas majorly.

I then poppednthem out and degreesed them and no effect. Richo recommended maf sensor cleaner. It worked. For about 3 minutes untill it decided to do it al over again.

I unplugged front sensor and idle cleared up. After plugging it back in it went to shit after 30 seconds. I unplugged the rear sensor and absolutely no difference at all.

I went back to unplugging the front and it now drives normally although my economy (which im trying to optimise) is probably laughing away at me.

From this im assuming it is one of the sensors. Although I dont know which one would be the problem.

Any help will be appreciated

Plug everything back in, run the engine for a few min, then shut it off, turn the key on, off, on, off, on (do not crank the engine) see the code on the od, it should display a "P" code.
Once you have this information we can help.

The O2 sensor is two things ... The sensor and a heater element.

FWIW .... and going by what you describe above .... It sounds like you buggered one or the other - during the cleaning process.

The computer puts the emissions system into Closed Loop status, about 30sec after startup .... and the heater element in the O2 sensor - is supposed to have the O2 sensor up to a correct operating temp - to provide, optimum emissions, fuel ratio adjustments ... when the system is in Closed Loop.

Might pay to check the O2 sensor, fuse, and that the wiring plug is making a good contact ..... but a dose of degreaser probably didnt do the thing a lot of good.

Does it run better once the coolant temp is up to normal ?? ... as that would suggest, its the O2 sensor heater element thats not working.

As for the code checking ... Start it up and run it - a coupla times ... Then do the key trick or scan it, as sometimes the computer needs to see a consistent fault to register it ... especially if you have had the battery disconnected and cleared the memory.

Simplest fix is just get a new O2 sensor ... if thats what the fault is ..

Default O2 sensor failure!

Hey guys the tj I just bought and it's got the codes to say there's voltage shortage and a couple other things with the oxygen sensor, when I got it checked by the mechanic he said to just buy one of the same number and to start pre cat then if that doesn't work go after cat aswell but they were about $175 and I thought it was not heaps important but it sounds like it is, will it help my economy etc to get new sensors or are these different ones that you guys are talking about? Thanks
